Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury at the Inventions Geneva Evaluation Days (IGED) 2021

“An Energy-Free, Low-Cost and High Cooling Performance Passive Radiative Cooling Technology for Building Applications”, led by Dr. Edwin Tso received the Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury at Inventions Geneva Evaluation Days (IGED) 2021. IGED is one of the biggest global events showcasing innovations and inventions from around the world. As a winner, Dr. Edwin Tso was invited to the Chief Executive’s Reception to congratulate the success of Hong Kong teams at the Grand Hall of Hong Kong Science Park on 17 May 2021. At the Reception, Dr. Tso explained the award-winning innovation to Ms. Carrie Lam, HKSAR Chief Executive, and other guests.

i2Cool Triumphs in Local and National Competitions

The team's project “A Novel Energy Free and Environmentally Friendly Cooling Paint for Building Applications” promotes a novel energy-free and environment-friendly passive radiative cooling paint to reduce the air conditioning energy consumption in buildings. Empowered by the self-developed and ever-improving paint product, as well as fueled by the highly adaptive and long-term strategies, the team successfully won three awards:
 
  • Gold Medal of the 7th China International College Students' “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition
  • First Runner-up of Entrepreneurship Proposal Category, The 7th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition
  • Second Runner-up of the 8th Challenge Cup (Entrepreneurship)

Ideation, Incubation and Acceleration Programmes (previously known as STEP), Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation

Our project titled “A Novel Energy-free and Environment-friendly Cooling Paint” won Ideation, Incubation and Acceleration Programmes (previously known as STEP) in 2021. The Programme is organized by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation.

Champion Prize in the 2020/2021 Environmental Paper Award held by The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Environmental Division

i2Cool Team won the Champion Prize in the 2020/2021 Environmental Paper Award held by The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Environmental Division. The awarded paper is entitled “An energy-free and low-cost daytime passive radiative cooling paint for energy saving in buildings and decarbonization”. In this paper, the working principle and fabrication method of a novel daytime passive radiative cooling paint have been illustrated, and its cooling performance and the energy-saving potential in real building applications have been demonstrated. This paper not only provides an environmentally friendly solution to environmental issues (i.e. energy shortage and global warming) caused by building cooling systems, but also facilitates the green building evolvement and sustainability development.

Championship and Runner-up in SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Contest (Hong Kong Chapter & Global Finals)

After winning the championship in SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Contest (Hong Kong Chapter), Miss Shirley Du, Dr. William Lee, Mr. Lin Kaixin, Johnny and Mr. Martin Zhu then proceeded to take part in the global finals of the same competition as Hong Kong SAR representatives. The team outcompeted teams from Malaysia, the Czech Republic, South Korea, Japan, and Greece, etc.,and won the runner-up in the competition with the novel innovation “A Novel Energy Free and Environmentally Friendly Cooling Paint for Building Applications”.

Second Prize of the Entrepreneurship Proposal Scheme in the 7th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition

Our Team participated in the entrepreneurship proposal scheme of the 7th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, organised by Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association (HKNGCA).

The award-winning proposal is entitled “A Novel Energy Free and Environmentally Friendly Cooling Paint for Building Applications”. Through this project, the team aims to promote a novel energy-free and environment-friendly passive radiative cooling paint product to reduce the air conditioning energy consumption in buildings. Empowered by the self-developed and ever-improving paint product, as well as fueled by the highly adaptive and long-term strategies, the team successfully attracted the interest from the judging panel members in the competition and got the Second Prize. In addition, by demonstrating this novel energy-saving technology to the public via the platform provided by the competition organizer, a great sense of environmental protection and living wellness could be raised among different sectors of society.

Start-up Fund Winner in the Climate Action Recognition Scheme 2020-21

Miss. Shirley Du, Dr. William Lee, Mr. Johnny Lin and Mr. Martin Zhu received the start-up fund in the Climate Action Recognition Scheme 2020-21 under the idea stage programme. The team proposed to launch a start-up company promoting the passive radiative cooling paint that can be applied on the outer wall of buildings. With the successful implementation, more than 50,000 tons annual carbon emission are expected to be reduced, equivalent to planting 350,000 trees in the Greater Bay Area annually, achieving sustainable development as well as mitigating global warming and climate change.

CityU HK Tech 300 Seed Fund

CityU has launched the “HK Tech 300” with an allocation of HK$500M to cover fields including information and communications technology, artificial intelligence, biotech and health, education and financial technologies. It is expected to last at least three years and benefit a total of 300 start-up teams. I2Cool is also selected for the HK$100,000 seed fund with the innovation of “novel energy-free passive radiative cooling paint” that is environmentally friendly.

Hanson I&T Outstanding Awards & Best Innovation Award

“Collaborating with Prof. Christopher Chao, the Project “Low-Cost High Performance Daytime Passive Radiative Cooling in Building Applications” won the Hanson I&T Outstanding Award and Best Innovation Award in the "Energy Saving Championship Scheme", which was jointly orgainized by the Environment Bureau and Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD), HKSAR (2019)
